Freshlyground barred from Zimbabwe

South African Afro-pop act Freshlyground has reportedly been barred from visiting Zimbabwe after cocking a snook at President Robert Mugabe in a music video of their latest single- "Chicken to Change". The Cape Town-based group was scheduled to perform at a show which was supposed to be held in Harare Lodge next month.

The group’s spokesperson, Sarah Burnett told Radio VOP that they were trying to negotiate. The group has in the past performed at several shows in Zimbabwe without encountering any problems and has built a steady following in the country.
The organisers of the show also told the media this week that the group’s working visas which had already been issued had been revoked by the Immigration Department in unclear circumstances. The band members are from South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
